Self Defence Wing of SPUWAC

The Special Police Unit for Women and Children (SPUWAC) of Delhi Police is exclusively dealing with women safety issues and representing Delhi Police on various forums. However, in view of increasing need to give special consideration to women, SPUWAC is imparting Self Defence Training (SHASHAKTI) to girl/women since 2002 in primarily marginalized sections of society for empowering them through training in martial arts. Through this wing, girl students, housewives across the NCT of Delhi are trained in basic Self Defence Techniques and taught how to make use of things like ‘Dupatta’, Pen, Handbags and other items available with them to protect themselves from attacks by anti social elements, criminals, snatchers etc. This training helps in building the self confidence in girls/women so that they do not feel vulnerable and also encourage them to join professional combat courses in future. Self defence techniques training classes, summer and winter camps, as well as one day self defence workshops all over Delhi are being organized by the Self Defence Wing of SPUWAC, Nanakpura, free of cost.

Achievement

Since 2002 to up to 15.02.2024 total 3212 self Defence Training Programmes (classes & camps) have been conducted by the Self Defence Wing of SPUWAC and total 548,468 participants i.e. school/college girls students, housewives and girls in educational institutions and total 1258 Self Defence One Day Workshop have been conducted by Self Defence Wing in which 200467 participants have been attended the above workshop. This unit also organise Gender Sensitization programme from 2015 for boys and till 15.02.24 total 465 programs have been conducted in which 168090 participants benefited.

After receiving lots of appreciation from society and looking at the success of these self defence training programmes besides routine camps held from time to time, the annual summer and winter camps are also organized by this Unit during summer & winter vacations all over Delhi at different venues.

SPUWAC is having a dedicated Self Defence wing comprising of ACP/Self Defence, Insp./Self Defence who is green belt in Karate and short commando trained from CISF Commando Training Centre Barawaha (MP) and 37 Self Defence Trainer and 02 coaches.

Out of 37 trainer 13 trainer Brown Belt in Karate 19 trainer yellow belt in karate and 05 trainer blue belt in karate and judo. SPUWAC impart the training to school in two module 10 days Self Defence training Programme and one day workshop.

Self Defence Wing of SPUWAC because of its remarkable achievement for training in Self Defence for more than 2,08,125 and 3,25,081 girls/women participants in the year 2017 and 2018 respectively and got entries twice in prestigious LIMCA BOOK OF RECORD.

Self Defence team of SPUWAC felicitated with SKOCH SILVER AWARD for successful execution of SASHAKTI programme towards the safety of women and children.
